A Poem For Nan
A bitter sweet farewell, Nan
For your journey has come to an end
Now reunited with Grandad Peter
Your one true love and best friend.
A forever love is undeniable
And yours was like no other.
Together forever, for worse or for better
You two were made for one another.
Home is where the heart is
As the saying goes
The heart and dark chocolate digestives-
Something Mick fondly knows!
For 24 years of my life
I had the honour of calling you Nan
You were part of many chapters of mine
You'd support each adventure and plan.
Then later came Zoe and Emily
To complete your granddaughter trio
You couldn’t have shown us more love, Nan
There’s so much to you that we owe.
We'll miss the tales of your childhood
Living in Norfolk during the war
And visits home to London
Your stories were never a bore.
So many people will miss you
Lillith, Indiana and Finley for sure
The best Nan they could’ve asked for
We'll miss you forever more.
You'd say 'Ring me when you get home safe'
Or 'Go on have another, from the biscuit tin'
We hope you sleep peacefully now Nanny Babs
We hope you know what a treasure you've been.
